In order for a Medicare Advantage Plan to be approved by the government, they must offer the same or better coverage than original Medicare. Also, during this open enrollment period, one could switch back from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare or even switch from one Medicare Advantage to a different Medicare Advantage plan.

Some MAPs (Medicare Advantage Plans) offer prescription drugs People often choose Medicare Advantage plans that include prescription drugs (called MAP-D’s). Some Medicare Advantage Plans have zero dollar premiums. In these cases, the cost for the plan is covered by the Medicare part B premium taken out of a beneficiary’s social security check.
